According to success rates and survival probabilities, there are only inadequate answers available to the question of implant or root canal treatment being more suitable in a specific situation – especially since the definitions of success and failure vary in endo-dontology and implantology, making a valid comparison even more difficult. There are numerous tooth- and patient-related parameters, which are taken into account during decision making. In general, a meticulous weighting of these parameters is required in every individual case, and this consideration is more relevant than an ostensibly more imposing approach, that is solely based on mean values.
