  • The aim of this case presentation is to describe a therapeutic procedure for apical closure with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA ) (Pro Root MTA , Dentsply, Konstanz, Germany) in teeth with an open apex. The success or failure of this therapy is illustrated by a presentation of two clinical cases with long-term follow-up. Both teeth showed an incomplete apical root formation and required endodontic therapy. In one case, a therapeutic success with no signs of apical infection or resorption of the root surface was observed. The second case failed to show healing of the apical lesion after 9 months and a fracture of the root could be seen, resulting in extraction of the tooth.
