  • The periapical cemento-osseos dysplasia (syn.: periapical cemental dysplasia, periapical fibrous dysplasia, osseous dysplasia, cementoma) is a solitary and multi-focal, benign bone alteration in the apical region of vital teeth. An initial osteolysis with a subsequent calcification and increasing precipitation of cementum-like particles are typical signs. This dysplasia is a benign, asymptomatical, self-limiting alteration of the bone and does not require therapy. Only in cases with an atypical history of the dysplasia and in painful cases or cases with functional limitations a biopsy is necessary for a histological verification of the diagnosis.
