In the endodontic literature, there are only a few reports and studies on the relationships between endodontics and orthodontics. These relationships include possible effects of orthodontic tooth movement on vital and nonvital teeth as well as problems with and consequences of endodontic treatment during orthodontic therapy. This paper presents a review on possible consequences of orthodontic tooth movement on vital and nonvital teeth and its effect on the dental pulp and the incidence of orthodontically induced root resorptions. According to current knowledge, orthodontic tooth movement may result in degenerative or inflammatory reactions in the dental pulp. Root-filled teeth seem to be less prone to apical resorption. Definitive obturation should not be performed unless orthodontic treatment is finished.
