ENDODONTIC MICROSURGERY VERSUS TRADITIONAL APICAL SURGERY
The introduction of the surgical microscope into the practice of endodontics has significantly expanded the options available for predictable root canal treatment, even in complex cases. The indications for surgical intervention, particularly in apicoectomies, decline all the more because the outcome of traditional apical surgery is moderate to poor. The surgical microscope, meanwhile, is also advocated and used for apical surgery. Success rates for apical surgery have been improved significantly by the use of new materials and instruments. This paper describes the major advantages of microsurgical treatment and demonstrates the clinical procedure in a case report.
